Live Near a Castle!

How many people do you know that can say they have actually lived near a castle? As our student you may stay in the dormitory near the Prague Castle called, Komenského Kolej (dorm), which is approximately a seven-minute walk from the castle and twenty minutes from the Old Town Square.
The dormitory offers the conveniences that any student would need to live and study abroad. In close proximity to public transportation, you can get to any place in Prague. There are also grocery stores, restaurants, and mini-markets within walking distance.

Single and double rooms are available with a shared bathroom and kitchenette for two adjacent rooms. The dorms have a refrigerator and a burner (hot plate) to be shared by occupants of the adjoining rooms. Bedding and towels are provided.
Please note: Kitchen utensils are not provided, however, items may be purchased or borrowed from the university dorm (based on availability).

24-Hour Residential Assistance
Mrs. Zuzana Wienerova, the Resident and Cultural Coordinator, is available to PJS students for any help that they may need during their stay in the dormitory. She provides support with medical emergencies, advice on places to see, and organizes weekly cultural activities. She lives in dorm room 109.

Breakfast
A light European style cold breakfast buffet is included and is available every day from 7:30am. until 10:00am. The breakfast includes: juice, coffee, milk, cereal, cold meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs, vegetables, fruit, bread, and yogurt. Vending machines are also available on the ground floor.

Laundry Room
The dormitory has a laundry room with washers and dryers available for students to use (small fee).

Community Room
The dorm community room contains a full kitchen with a stove, oven, and microwave. There is also a small lounge area with a flat screen TV.

Study Room
A quiet study room with desks is available on the 3rd floor for students to use.

Gym
A gym is available for use on the ground floor. The gym contains free weights and an elliptical machine. A small fee is required.

Internet
Internet is available in each dorm room through a cable. The cost per semester is approximately 300 – 400 CZK [approx. 20 USD] and may be purchased (cash only) during dorm check-in. Wi-Fi is unavailable in the dorm. There is no computer lab available at the dormitory.  Students should bring their own laptop or students may use the computers at Charles University during the weekdays.

Phones
All suites are equipped with a local phone. Incoming phone calls are connected from the dorm operator directly to the dorm room.

Gated Entry
Entrance to the dorm requires a Charles University ID to be swiped at the front entrance of the building. A front desk attendant is available at all times in case a student needs assistance.  All students will receive an ID card within the first week of the program.

Cleaning Service
Rooms are cleaned weekly and sheets are changed every ten days.

Housing Fee
On-Campus: To apply for accommodation, please fill out the housing section of the application form. Single rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Breakfast is included.

Off-Campus: Students may elect to find housing on their own. Several students find their own accommodation in a shared apartment or studio in the center. PJS does not provide off-campus housing assistance, but we can direct students to the appropriate websites.

 

Dining Services

Cafeterias: PJS students may eat at any of the university cafeterias located throughout Prague. The two closest to the classrooms are at the Faculty of Law (Náměstí Curieových 7) and the Jednota dining hall (Opletalova 38). Students also may eat at the cafeteria on the ground floor of the main building. Lunch costs $3-5 USD including soup, a main course and a beverage. There is always one vegetarian entrée. Lunch is served from 11:00-2:00pm.  Semester use only.

There are also numerous cafés, restaurants, and fast food places found throughout Prague.
